Our Current News

September 2022

September 30, 2022

Just an update on how crazy it has been this past month. We did not breed for any September litters and just now starting to breed for October/November litters. Our Buns in the Oven page is pretty far off right now. We have one litter that needs to be posted for sale but have not had the time to get pictures. It is a litter of beautful magpies. We also had several litters born a few weeks ago that we will be adding to the for sale pages as well that never were posted on in the Nursery.

We do not have a lot to choose from for October transport because transport is either not coming through, going the wrong direction or I am gone during the time one transporter is leaving for her run. We will be going to Michigan on the 13th of October I believe and this makes it possible for us to use a transporter called Wild Hops who is covering a good bit of area. So let us know if you want a bunny. We will see what we can work out. We also do have transport back to Arizona and southern California in November. Now is the time to speak up if you want a bunny transported out there because the transporter told me to let him know of the areas so he can add it t his route! We have a lot more options for transport the month of November.

Lots of updates and catching up to do this weekend so stay tuned! Enjoy the little video below that I snapped real quick today!

It has been a white since I wrote on our blog. Time gets away and there just aren't enough hours in the day. Things that we have going on here....

We have some new litters in the nest boxes. I will update those very soon. We did not breed any does in the month of August so there are no bunnies due in September. We plan to breed this week for bunnies to be due in early October.

The kids started a new program they will utilize each month. The four of them (Justus, Celeste, Rory, and Bella) get to pick a bunny over the age of 4-5 weeks each month to work with. They care for these kits by making sure their water bottles are clean and fresh, give them hay and food, clean up after them, blow them out, and the most important job....PLAY WITH THEM! They love their jobs. They get rewarded for all of their hard work too. Each time someone purchases one of these bunnies, the kids decided they would each contribute 10% of their sale money to the family vacation fund. Ahnika and I do the same thing. The rest of the funds go into each of their individual savings accounts that their mom, Kelsi has set up for them. They get a little bit of the money beforehand to go out and buy a treat or small toy. It is incentive to learning responsibility and how to work for what they have/want. So far, they love the process! Their goal is to go to Disney World sooner rather than later lol.

Keep in mind that the kids bunnies they each work with are great therapy pets or family pets by the time they are old enough to go home. There is no rhyme or reason to why they choose the bunnies they choose. We do not tell them colors, prices, or genders. We keep it fair by not telling price! So it seems like they pick them out by what their personal taste is in color and personalities.

Other things going on around here on our little farm... We are now growing plants to make a rabbit garden. We are calling it our "Carrot Patch". We have starts for Comfrey and Willow shrubs right now. We had to buy roots and stems offline to get started but so far, they are all doing great! The goal for next spring is to have the Carrot Patch full of lots of goodies and healthy foods that the bunnies can eat on a daily basis. Our rabbits will have more of what is called a "raw diet" rather than just pellets and hay. We are so excited about this but let me tell you...it is a work in progress. Everything takes time and time is limited. We raise Maine Coon cats and Toy Poodles as well. Then we added New Zealand White meat rabbits which we LOVE! They are kept outdoors, not with our angoras. We also added a couple of turkeys, lots of quail and chickens to the farm this summer. Talk about work....they are all so much fun but learning how to prioritize better and manage time is a bit of a struggle for me. In the mean time, I'm also writing a book on how to do basically everything from purchasing, raising, breeding, and profit from rabbits. Thanks to you, our loyal customers, we are able to sustain a working rabbitry all from the sales of baby bunnies, selling fiber, and soon manure for fertilizer. Believe it or not, our rabbits have supported all of my other hobbies even though rabbits are cheaper animals. We poured so much time and energy into our rabbitry and it works!

We are always here to help out with questions. If we know it, we will answer it. If we don't we will hopefully know someone who does and refer you.

The next chapter for the rabbitry is to redo our website again.  Unfortunately our web designer and person who took care of everything for me has went MIA. No clue what happened to him.  He just up and disappeared, phone and emaiil do not work either. So before we lose all we have worked so hard on to provide to the public with all this education, we will be revamping and hiring a new web guy!

Until next time and hopefully that won't be so long! God bless you all and thank you for your support!

at country bumpkin bunnies we adore our bunnies

'Rabbits have a subtle repertoire of body language to communicate so they don't draw attention to themselves. They use these signals to bond with their hutch mates, and the humans in their lives to say 'I love you'.
