Clipper Review

Picture

I wanted to let everyone know what I think of our new purchase on clippers.  The Andis CLC-2 (white clipper above) has been my favorite clipper I have used on our angoras.  There are so many people raving about the Wahl Bravura so I went ahead and bought one.  Being a groomer by trade and knowing how different it is to cut cat hair vs dog hair, I can compare angora to a Persian cat.  However, it is NOT the same. I have never had trouble cutting cat hair with any clipper I have used.  I have run into issues with blades however, cutting angora hair with many different brands.

The Andis pictured above cut around a hundred coats off before the blade dulled.  It was a 5-1 ceramic blade that it came with.  Loved it!  It was extremely difficult to find a replacement but I did eventually. I ordered it and it was not the same (not ceramic).  It worked good but not as great as the original. It didn't last as long.  So instead of ordering another blade, I ordered a Wahl Bravura.  I thought, why not give it a try.  Cat groomers swear by them!

Fast forward...I have groomed less than 20 angoras with the Bravura and I like it.  However, I do not LOVE it.  The teeth on the blade are very pointy and sharp.  I fear I will stab a bunny.  I have scraped a few unfortunately.  They cut great but they are new so I expect that.  I can tell that the blade is starting to dull and that is such a disappointment! I really expected to use them a few months before replacing the blade.

Good points and bad points.  The Bravura has a better battery life of the two.  The Andis is much lighter in weight.   Both are good but have their flaws.  The Andis CLC-2 is actually made for cutting human hair.  So kudos to them for such a great product.  The clipper is well under $100 to purchase as well and came in a bag with a hair cutting kit (guard, scissors, etc).

Hope this helps if anyone is searching for a good clipper.   I also have an Andis proclip ultraedge (not cordless) that I have always loved.  The problem I have had with it is the blades, not the clipper.  I have purchased blades, brand new from tractor supply and they couldn't cut a single piece of hair.  I returned them thinking they were put together wrong.  I do believe that the key is in the blade, not so much the clipper itself.  Anything extra is just a perk :)

One week old kits

Picture

So here (above) are Dejah's survivors.  She had a self blue that did not make it. The two on the floor that we found are getting markings now that look to be opal.  They are the ones with red nail polish on the ears.  This is so we can tell them apart.  After we are 100% certain we will stop applying the polish because it won't matter.

Below are Squirrels two babies.  She had a mishap with the white one though. He somehow spun the wool around his foot.  It was cut short but during the night they wiggled around enough to felt it and he may lose his foot.  We will not be selling him.  This is so unfortunate because we have a long waiting list for chins.  We have now given Dejah the litter to raise and will let Squirrel get back in condition and rebreed her in hopes for a better litter.  She was not in the best condition when she first arrived and took about two weeks to eat normal and put her weight on.  Now she is really looking nice but we are going to be sure she ready before rebreeding her.

Crazier things have happened

Monday morning we woke up to two does who had just kindled.  They were late to deliver so it was a bit of a shock.  I didn't expect them to have any babies.  One mom (Dejah) has always had large litters that she does a great job with and she had all of them on the wire.  I believe it had to do with the heat and all the work we were doing in the garage the day before.  We were installing temp walls and a/c.  Although they are much cooler, I think all the commotion had them confused. So by the time I found these little kits, only two of the five were alive.  I do not know if the three passed before, during or after birth.  This mom seemed to be finished and had a nice nest of fur built...even though she didn't have her babies in her nest!  I watched them closely and her two survivors seemed to be doing well the first couple of hours.  One did get weak for a bit but by the end of the day, it perked up.  The other mom (Squirrel) was a new mom who we had lots of trouble getting adjusted here.  She came to us pregnant and we weren't sure she even took.  She had two tinies in her  nest box, no hair pulled and acted like she was not finished kindling when we found her this morning.  I went out often to check on her and never saw her kindling but still suspected something might be up with her. Her two babies were little but doing very well and staying warm.  THEN I saw two little wigglers on the garage floor close to the exit of our temp room we built.  They were nice and warm all snuggled together and looked very healthy.  They were a good size, more like Dejah's kits but located closer to Squirrels cage.  Here is another problem, all of the kits look the same pretty well.  Squirrel has a blue chin and an ermine in her nest box.  Dejah has a blue self and an opal in her nest box.  The two kits on the floor looked the same as the blue chin and opal right now because the hair has to grow in to know for sure what their colors are.  So...who is the mom? I'm not sure.  Squirrel acted like she was not finished having babies and then we found these two kits a couple hours later....then she was relaxed.  So more than likely they are chins.  However, they are the size of Dejah's kits. Who knows today.  Stay tuned and we will surely know by the time they are 2-3 weeks old.  Until then, we are not going to hold these two bunnies for anyone.  Our waiting list will remain on hold until we get to the bottom of this mystery.  It's always something in the bunny world!  You just never know what's next lol.

Stormy and Ty's litter

We have three kits left to reserve from this litter.  The mom is chocolate so all will be chocolate carriers.  Dad is a blue otter so they will also carry the dilute gene.   We have one black doe, one black buck and one blue tort buck available from this litter.  No holds without a deposit of $50.  This litter is my husbands favorite because every time he approaches their hutch, the babies run to him for head rubs! Very friendly little guys!

Ready the end of this month!

As the end of today, July 8, 2020...we have two chocolate harlequin does not spoken for.  We have had interest but until we receive a deposit, they are over 4 weeks old and cannot be held otherwise. Mom is a magpie and dad is a split face harlequin. Tessa and Callie are pictured below at 5 weeks old.

We have one kit available from Pandora's litter.  Pandora is a fawn VC and the sire is a chocolate pearl (Abu).  The available kit is a beautiful clone of his daddy!  See below.

Stormy, our chocolate doe bred to a sire we no longer own.  His name was Ty, a blue otter.  They had an amazing litter of cuties!  We have a black buck, black doe, and a blue tort buck still available from this litter.  Pictured below at just 4 weeks old.

at country bumpkin bunnies we adore our bunnies

'Rabbits have a subtle repertoire of body language to communicate so they don't draw attention to themselves. They use these signals to bond with their hutch mates, and the humans in their lives to say 'I love you'.
