The English Angora rabbit makes a great pet that you’ll love to have around. Here’s what makes them perfect for the family.
Angora bunnies are playful, outgoing and sociable. They sometimes enjoy playing with other rabbits as well as humans. They run after toy balls and chew wooden blocks, but they also love their naps.
From that point of view, you could say that English Angora bunnies are the ideal mix of a friendly dog – sleepy cat. They also require less attention than cats and dogs.
Temperament is one of the most important factors in raising bunnies. By nature, bunnies are prey animals and scare easily.
Our bunnies here are handled from birth and all of my adult bunnies are extremely tame- We only breed from friendly bunnies! Our English Angora bunnies are known for their wonderful, friendly, temperaments!
Angora rabbits should eat about 6 ounces of high-quality pellets with lots of protein (16 - 18%, the higher the better for wool production), and a lot of high-quality grass hay (mixed grasses or Timothy).
Offer your rabbits vegetable treats occasionally, but don’t overdo it. Slowly introduce new veggies and be watchful of your bunnies reactions (no changes in stools is good). If you have a baby Angora, it is not necessary to offer it fruits or veggies yet because they’re too young. Babies’ diets consist mainly of quality pellets and grass hay.
Although adult rabbits need 80% grass hay and a combined 20 % of pellets and veggies, it is best to start fresh veggies at five or six months of age. An exception to adding veggies any earlier, would be if they grew up eating what mom ate.
Angoras have thick, long and smooth wool, so you need to groom them regularly. Two or three times each week is enough, but make sure to purchase the proper grooming tools.
You will have to blow their coats out more than you brush them. Over brushing or combing will remove the needed guard hairs (more coarse hairs) and cause tangles and mats quicker. If you choose to groom yourself, your English Angora will need a hair cut (or harvest) every 2-4 months as their wool grows an average of one inch per month.
If you choose not to groom yourself, schedule regular grooming appointments with a pet groomer that either knows how to groom rabbits or long coated cats to make sure your your rabbit is clean, tidy, healthy, and handsome.
The English Angora rabbit is a ball of energy. It is a playful and social creature that loves to spend time with its owner and enjoys socializing with other family members, pets, and children. If you nurture it well, it will bond with you very well. Like a cat or dog, they too can recognize their owner’s voice and will even come on command and jump on your lap. Isn’t that amazing?
They may be small in size, but English Angora rabbits have very distinct personalities. From being very playful to affectionate and sometimes even shy. You will be amazed to see how each rabbit is different in its behavior from the other. And that’s what makes them so intriguing.
